As of January 2026, Quest is now a simpler, one-day assessment format. This will reduce disruption for teams while keeping the independent recognition, quality standards, and supportive feedback that Quest is known for.
Please see below for the recording and presentation from our New Assessment Overview Webinar, which took place in October 2025:
Swim England Learn to Swim Accreditation is a quality mark for swim schools and operators delivering the Learn to Swim Programme. Learn to Swim Accreditation recognises excellence in governance, sustainability and effectiveness and raises the profile of your Learn to Swim Programme offer.
This includes swim schools, school swimming programmes, local authority operators, leisure trusts, private leisure providers and multi-site organisations.
Once Accredited, you will receive a certificate, personalised plaque and the Swim England Accredited Provider logo. These quality marks can be displayed at your facility and used on all your promotional material to help parents and learners identify you as a Learn to Swim Accredited Provider.
You are able to complete the Swim England Learn to Swim Accreditation either as a standalone assessment or as an additional standard alongside a one-day Quest Assessment.
To achieve the Accreditation, you will need to select one of the assessment options below.
Standalone Assessment
The ‘Standalone Assessment’ is approximately half a day review of your current practices and procedures with an experienced assessor; and must take place when your swimming lesson programme is running.
If you choose this option, we will confirm a date and assign an assessor to your facility and the process can begin.
Larger organisations can choose to accredit the whole of their facilities to ‘Swim England Learn to Swim’.
Any organisation with four or more eligible facilities can apply to be assessed as a ‘multi-site’:
Organisations with between four and 14 sites, three facilities will be assessed
Organisations with 15 plus sites, 20% of the organisation’s facilities will be assessed.
If all facilities pass, the whole organisation passes. On renewal of the accreditation different centres will be sampled, with new centres to the organisation being completed as priority.
The assessment process can still be undertaken either by the standalone assessment or via a Quest Plus assessment.
Achieving the Accreditation

The new "Tackling Inequalities in Leisure Standard" replaced the Inclusive Fitness Initiative (IFI) back in September 2022 and has been co-written between Activity Alliance and Quest. The aim is to help leisure operators provide more inclusive and accessible physical activity opportunities for people from a range of inequality groups. The new standard is similar to IFI and covers accessible facilities and services offered.
The Standard can be completed as an addition to a one-day Quest Assessment, or as an independent standalone assessment.
Please click the link for our webinar presentation from August, which explains the Standard in more detail:
The "Tackling Inequalities in Leisure Standard" has also been incorporated as two modules in ‘Quest’, which are "Driving Participation" and "Accessible Facilities".
The "Driving Participation" module is included as a Day 1 module, and is completed by all facilities. The "Accessible Facilities" module needs to be selected as an additional standard and is completed as part of the mystery visit.
